Special Events Unit

The Special Events Unit plays a crucial role in maintaining the safety and smooth operation of large events and high-profile campus happenings at Penn State, and most notably at University Park. This specialized team is composed of highly trained officers who are adept at crowd management, emergency response, and logistical coordination. Their responsibilities extend beyond traditional law enforcement, encompassing risk assessments before events, collaboration with event organizers, and the implementation of tailored security protocols that fit the unique needs of each occasion. Whether managing entrance screening at concerts or ensuring safe pedestrian flow during athletic events, the unit's proactive approach helps foster a secure and welcoming environment for students, employees, and visitors alike.
In addition to routine patrols and visible presences, the Special Events Unit often works closely with other emergency services and University departments to develop comprehensive contingency plans. This work includes not only real-time response to incidents, but also extensive preparation ranging from traffic control to medical aid coordination. By engaging Student Auxiliary Officers and leveraging partnerships with community stakeholders, the unit strengthens both campus and community safety. With a focus on professionalism and adaptability, the Special Events Unit embodies University Police's commitment to service, ensuring that Penn State's diverse calendar of events can be enjoyed safely by all.
