University Police, originally established in 1926 at the Pennsylvania State College Patrol, is responsible for protecting and serving more than 100,000 of Penn State's students, employees, and visitors at 22 campuses located throughout Pennsylvania.

University Police, with its headquarters at the University Park Campus, is a full-service police agency with sworn police officers who have full law enforcement authority. University Police's primary jurisdiction is defined as any grounds (property owned, controlled, leased, or managed by Penn State) or any area within 500 years of the grounds. The Unit has also entered into mutual aid agreements with all surrounding police agencies and may respond to outside police calls when requested.

Beyond providing regular police patrol, University Police is comprised of several specialized policing units, including:

  • Bike Patrol Unit

  • Tactical Response Team

  • Community Oriented Policing Unit

  • Criminal Investigations Unit

  • Drone Unit

  • Hazardous Device Unit

  • K9 Unit
