Internship Program

The UPPS Internship Program is a highly rewarding professional opportunity that allows students interested in law enforcement to gain hands-on experience in various areas of the department. These internships are either paid or credit-based and are primarily offered to students enrolled in post-secondary institutions who are at least 18 years old. Typically, student interns are in their junior or senior year of study and academic credit may be available depending on the student intern's collage requirements.

Policing Internships

UPPS’s Policing Internships offer an opportunity for students interested in law enforcement to gain hands-on experience in various areas within University Police. Throughout the semester, interns are involved in a range of activities, including ride-alongs with officers, participating in community events, shadowing during football games, and meeting with support units outside of University Police. They also have opportunities to observe criminal investigations, attend law enforcement training programs, and participate in specialized unit work rotations. This comprehensive exposure helps interns understand the multifaceted nature of law enforcement and prepares them for future careers in the field.

University Police typically accepts one intern per semester.

Administrative Internships

UPPS’s Administrative Internships offer an opportunity for students interested in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives. Several internships are available most semesters and are supervised by the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. During their internship, students are challenged to assist with the creation and execution of DEI initiatives throughout the Commonwealth, which may include efforts in recruitment and retention, taking part in training opportunities, and participating in outreach activities with the department's Community Oriented Policing unit.
